Apparently it would be helpful if the Sunnis and Shiites were not fighting with each other.

One approach would be to separate them so they can get on with their lives. How about making 3 separate countries?

AND IT HAS INFINITELY MORE IMPACT ON MORE PEOPLE. DOGFIGHTING IS UGLY BUT NO MORE UGLY THAN A REPTILIAN VICE PRESIDENT USING A LIKEABLE AIRHEAD CHEERLEADER PRESIDENT AS HIS FRONT getting thousands of innocent people killed.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF HUMAN BEINGS HAVE DIED CRUELLY. Others have been maimed for life physically and mentally.

A trillion or so is down the drain and Al Qaeda is stronger and more motivated than ever. The international standing of the USA is at an all time low.

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

Or cut and run? How about helping people who cannot get along to separate?

Nah…. Too radical ! We cannot interfere in the internal affairs of another country. So I guess we are back to “Stay and pray” or “Cut and run”. How silly of me!

With a view toward helping the Iraqis. If we do not, Iraq will be breaking it up with a view toward helping Iran.

Do the Iraqi Shiites have more in common with the Iraqi Shiites or the Iraqi Sunnis? It is up to them to decide. The Kurds left in 1991 and do not want to come back.

OR we can stay and pray or ultimately cut and run. Which is it boys and girls?

THE MILITARY IS SAYING THAT A POLITICAL SOLUTION IS NEEDED. But stay and pray? Cut and run?

How about solving the basic problem by separating the disputing parties and let them all get on with their lives?

Iraq needs to be divided into Kurdistan, Shiastan and Sunnistan. The Iraqis did not put together Iraq. Britain did that in the aftermath of World War One. Maybe it was a good idea then. it is the basic cause of problems now.

IF YOU OBJECT TO IMPOSING A POLITICAL SOLUTION UPON IRAQIS ,THINK OF IT AS CORRECTING A POLITICAL SOLUTION THAT WAS ERRONEOUSLY IMPOSED ON IRAQIS AFTER WORLD WAR ONE. IN ANY CASE, IT WILL BE UP TO THE IRAQIS TO DECIDE. We need to help them.

AND NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT MAKING 3 SEPARATE COUNTRIES.

In 2002 and 2003 , I watched in horror as we waded into this mess and now I am watching in equal horror as we refuse to do anything to get out of the mess which was created when we invaded Iraq.

Before it is too late we need to start coming to grips with the very real issues that would be involved in the separation of Iraq.

NO ONE WANTS TO HAVE SERIOUS DISCUSSION ABOUT TURNING IRAQ INTO 3 COUNTRIES. The structure of Iraq was imposed upon the people of the region by the British in the aftermath of World War One. Maybe it was a reasonable thing to do in those simpler times but it is the cause of big time problems now.

If it is wrong to impose outside will upon Iraqis, think of it as undoing a previous mistake imposed upon Iraqis by the British .

In any case it is up to the Iraqis to decide. If they do not want to split apart,it is up to them to figure out how to live together.

We are in a position to help them. It is in our interest and theirs.

IF DEPOSING SADDAM RESULTED IN A BETTER IRAQ. So far that does not look as if it is happening.

BUT…

If making 3 countries out of Iraq enabled the 3 entities to start moving ahead in first gear, it would have been HIS toppling of Saddam that would have made it all possible

OR WE CAN MAKE “PRESERVING IRAQ AS A SINGLE ENTITY” THE NULL HYPOTHESIS. Either way we need to know which way to go.
